About the Painter

Dale Ann Matthews, living and painting in Park City UT has always been influenced by the art in the community and the surrounding beauty. Throughout her years, first minoring in Art at the University of Pittsburgh, she had been moved by the techniques of many the abstract expressionists; Pollock, Kline, and more recently Richter. You can see elements of their style in her paintings.

The various methods of applying paint to the canvas to achieve texture, the bold brush strokes, and the layering of color to build form and dimension are all visible. Paint is dripped, the canvas is scratched and plaster is often applied. More recent paintings are done on steel, where acrylics and acids are applied to the surface to achieve dimension and luminosity. The steel paintings are unique in that they change color as the light reflects off the surface.
In the abstract there is no preconceived language. The process is dynamic and becomes increasingly more complex throughout the elaboration of the painting. Paint flows freely across the canvas or on steel bright, dramatic, linear and free from boundaries. Each painting then slowly evolves to take on a persona of its own.
